The Conasauga River drains the heart of the Cohutta Wilderness, flowing north through Georgia into Tennessee. It supports one of the most diverse freshwater fish communities in North America.

The Jacks River is famous for its challenging ford crossings — over 40 on the Jacks River Trail alone. It flows through a remote gorge and offers exceptional wild trout fishing.

The Divide Ridge separates the Conasauga and Jacks River drainages. Trails here offer sweeping views and access to the highest elevations in the Cohutta Wilderness.

Trails in adjacent areas including Fort Mountain State Park, the Pinhoti Trail corridor, and the Benton MacKaye Trail provide access to the broader Cohutta ecosystem.
